Happy Sunday, folks! Hope everyone is doing pretty good. I’ve been quietly chipping away at my book of game essays. The nice part about writing a book about video games is, hey, video games. The hard part is going, “Oh, I might need to play through three and a half Kingdom Hearts games to write this bit.” We’ll get into Kingdom Hearts discourse someday when we’re all older and wiser.
Speaking of kingdoms (wow), like much of the world, I’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate 3. My character, Salas, was intended to be pure, unadulterated evil. For once in my life, I was going to play someone who made the ground shake with his presence and caused fear in the greatest hearts. Instead, as I wrote for The Gamer, I’m just kind of an asshole.
Whenever any form of art is successful, people immediately ask “So, what do we get from you next?” Unfortunately, in games that often weirdos will play 500 hours in a weekend and then get frustrated when the developer doesn’t drop new content every Monday. For your submission, my other column for The Gamer about Baldur’s Gate 3: Stop talking about DLC for a game that just came out.
I hope you’ve had a great weekend so far. If not, don’t worry; soon we’ll all be facing worldwide crises so severe that the tragedies of yesterday will feel like the dreams of tomorrow.
