The Strike Ends, Upcoming Events, and Slightly More!
Reminder: You should pre-order my weirdo book.
Hey, everyone! Happy Sunday! This is the day when we all remember that tomorrow is work so we spend our few free hours worrying about not having enough few free hours.
Which is actually kind of nice because - yes! - the Writers Guild Strike is ending. In fact, that’s why I’ve been a bit slow with posts. You see, I’m slow when I’m working and slow when I’m not working, but neither of those are my fault. Anyway, I’m already back in the office, so I’ve been preoccupied with remembering how to talk to other human beings without a labor-related chant. Hopefully SAG-AFTRA gets a similarly good deal soon so everyone across the industry can get back to work.
If you’re interested, I wrote a bit about it here for The Gamer.
I also wrote a column about why I have to admit to myself I’m never going to play the giant board games I buy. Less strike-related and more sorrow-focused. I’m pushing 40. It just isn’t happening. Nobody wants it.
Other news:
I’m hosting a launch event this Tuesday for Melinda Taub’s new book, “The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch.” It’s a great book. You should read it.
My own novelization of one of the worst games ever made, “Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties” is still up for pre-order for a limited time! Get it while it’s hot!
That’s all I got, nerds! Have a good week! Play Cyberpunk 2077. It’s good now.
Congratulations on the end of the strike!
The article about board games hit too close to home. I got the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures City Fall board game from Kickstarter. I'm ashamed to say how much I spent, but I got it with all the 500 expansions. I've moved apartments with that massive amount of boxes, and only one of them has been opened to check out the cool figurines...
I got Kingdom Rush Drift in Time from a Kickstarter too. Guess how many times I've played it..0 (there was one attempt, which is way more than I can say for the TMNT game)
I have played board games with friends and enjoy it, but I get all the same problems you've described with my games 😭
