Happy Wednesday! Or, maybe I should just say “Wednesday!” Everything on Earth is bad and sideways, so I feel silly continuing to do this thing. Then again, not doing it doesn’t do much for anyone either. So, fuck it. Here’s a nice song from a nice game.
The “Athletic” Theme from Yoshi’s Island.
Composed by Koji Kondo (who is largely responsible for 90% of the Nintendo music you might know and love), this theme is fucking jaunty. That’s right, jaunty. If there were an audio dictionary - first of all, sounds like a lot of work - and second, this song would be part of the definition of jaunty.
The song definitely serves old, 1920s cartoon. Which makes the goofy, floaty nature of the game. It’s also one of those classic video game songs - sort of like The Moon from DuckTales - that you can endlessly cover and it still works.
Hope everyone is alright out there. Sorry this SubStack is dorky as shit. Love you.
Thank you for doing these, they're very cool and you have great taste in music 🤘
