Okay, so this one is a bit of a cheat. It’s on sale for 50% off, making it about $5.
But let’s talk about Game Dev Story. What started as a simplistic, mindless tycoon game for phones is now a simplistic, mindless tycoon game for consoles and computers! Or, rather, it has been for a while. This game ain’t new.
And while it’s not super deep, it is actually incredibly addictive. Simple things tend to be because you figure it out fast and don’t need to do that much past it other than click and click some more. I’m really not selling you on this at all.
You can even see from the fonts in the screenshot that his was supposed to be a mobile game. But that’s not the point. In Game Dev Story, you run a video game company. You probably already knew that part.
To run this game company, you hire staff with different talents. Some are great at making the game more “fun” but not add much in terms of music or graphics. Others will do… well, other things. You get it. As time progresses, you’ll have to expand your offices and spend an assload of money to work on newer and newer consoles. Sometimes random events like power outages can hurt your game’s quality, which inevitably hurts sales.
While this might not sound like fun, it is! Because it takes virtually zero input or work outside of minor financial decisions, you can enjoy your life as the fun numbers go up and the workers burn themselves out making a game that receives 7’s across the board.
Is Game Dev Story going to change your life? Absolutely not. But if you’ve read this far, at the very least this sounds like something that might be something. Get it before it’s no longer $5 and I’m a fucking liar.
Bought! Thank you for your service to the working class Mike! 😆
