Hey, it’s Monday! Let’s discuss your favorite thing on this entire SubStack: Cheap video games that are of somewhat decent quality.
Since it’s Halloween season, I figured I’d throw in some cheap horror games that you can play in just a few hours. Imagine a horror movie, but it’s a game. Horror game. New idea. Nobody’s had it yet.
So let’s talk Future Racer 2000!
From the banner, you can guess it’s a game that’s not really about racing. It’s about living in an oppressive apartment building under a strange quarantine. You receive a free video game console with a game called - you guessed it - Future Racer 2000.
Most of the game is actually you trying to make your new video game console work. When the power goes out, you’ll have to go into the basement and turn it back on. When you begin getting phone calls, you need to go to the lobby to figure out what is going on. As you progress, you’ll hear from other characters and run across some neighbors that ain’t doing too great.
And, eventually, there is some racing.
The racing portion is essentially a rhythm game in which you have to follow the pattern on the screen. The better you do, the better you race. It doesn’t really matter to the game itself and, after a while, things get weird in there, too.
Future Racer 2000 isn’t exactly a ground-breaking horror game. But for the small price and short length, it’s a fun little interactive horror experience. Nothing you do really matters that much, but where it takes you on the journey is some good ol’ weird horror fun.
If you want it, click here. If you don’t, I very much get where you’re coming from.
